Fire Prism Progress III

Was going to call it quits on the fire prism but wanted to fix the bleeding while I was in a painting frame of mind.  Got to say I'm happy with the way it is turning out.

  1. Looks awesome! I love the color shading on the yellow for the cannon. It really makes the model have more depth. The detail is great.
I do have to ask, how do you get the color and texture so smooth on the body and gun? (Such as the blue and yellow) I can never seem to get it so smooth, especially with the Eldar.

  2. Thanks for the feedback man. The yellow took me a while to paint. Lots of thin coats of paint. Started with Iyanden, wash of sepia, worked up to golden yellow then sunburst yellow. About 10 coats or so of watered down paint. The blue I got lucky with, only one coat of mordeian blue then ultramarine blue on the raised plates. Again though I kept the paint watered down to keep the streaks to a min.

  3. I know this sounds like a silly question, how do you go about keeping consistent watered down paint? I can never get it to work out for me.

    Any tips?

But I will keep in mind the watered down paint! Thanks for the reply!

  4. I use a plastic pallet, and scoop the paint out of the pot with my brush. I then dip the end of my brush in a clean cup of water and apply it to my paint usually on a one to one basis with each scoop of paint. For the light colours like yellow or white, I will add more water. I mix the paint and water with the end of end of my brush. I try and get the consistency of the paint to the point that it will not pull in on itself (for the lighter colours I like the consistency where it just starts to spread out from itself). I just add water as I need it to keep the paint at a constant consistency.
