Wraithseer Built

I put a little more work in on the Wraithseer and gave it a D-Cannon and added a few more bits and bobs.  The next step after the glue has dried is to base and prime.  I've been fooling around with some lists to try out my new model.  I want to make sure I include a 10 strong squad of Wraithguard as a troop unit as well.  They eat up a ton of points though so the list needs to be built around them and the Wraithseer (and likely another Wraithlord).  I also think that the Wraithguard would pair up well with Harlequins though I only have five models and I'm terrified of trying to paint them...  I think Scorpions might also work by walking behind the Wraithguard up the table.  Ultimately I really have no idea how to build a list around the Wraithguard and Wraithseer.  I think I'll spend some time scouring some internet forums for some ideas and play test some lists (time willing).

  1. Nice Wraithseer- always loved the Titan heads.

Just came up with a quick list using some of your ideas:

Farseer- Warding, Spirit Stones, Fortune, Guide
    Wraithseer- D-Cannon
5 Striking Scorps- Exarch, Biting Blade, Shadowstrike
5 Striking Scorps- Exarch, Biting Blade, Shadowstrike
    5 Rangers
12 Guardians- Scatter Laser, Warlock, Conceal
12 Guardians- Scatter Laser, Warlock, Conceal
    10 Wraithguard- Warlock, Enhance
    5 Swooping Hawks
    5 Swooping Hawks
    Wraithlord- Missile Launcher, Scatter Laser
    Wraithlord- Missile Launcher, Scatter Laser
2 War Walkers- 2 Scatter Lasers each.

1997 points. Gives a few options, tank busting from Wraithlords at range and Hawks in CC, plus there's plenty of outflank/deep strike/ infiltrate kicking about. I think once you decide to use a Wraithseer, then you need to include plenty of Wraithlords and Wraithguard, but also limit the cost of those units so that you don't just become 1 trick pony.

    Just an idea

  2. Thanks for the reply man. I've yet to use Hawks in 5th edition. I've been scared off by all the internet hate for them (I love the models though). Do you find they work well for you?

I can't decide what would work best on the wraithguard: conceal or enhance. I like the idea of enhance but I'm not sure if its worth giving up the constant 5++ save. I was thinking that to take enhance, you would need to take harlequins in front with veil of tears to give the cover save (but I don't want to attempt to paint my harlequins just yet).

I think I'll start out going with the scorpions and try out the hawks. I was also thinking of filling out my heavies with wraithlords then taking some wasps/warwalkers in my troop slots seeing as I'm already using forgeworld rules.

  3. Yeah, there's a lot of hate for the Hawks. I think it's because most get hung up on Skyleap and their assult guns- at the end of the day, if you're deep-striking them, then they're not a great unit- Warp Spiders would be the Weapon of choice, and Turbo-boosting Jetbikes do the same job better. However the Hawks do have 1 major advantage- Haywaire Grenades on every model. It's by far the easiest way of killing armour up-close in an Eldar army- especially when combined with Intercept if you can afford it, as this means they always hit armour on 4+ or better in Combat.

Harlequins are good for cover saves with veil, but Guardians are cheaper. The purpose of the 12 man Guardian squads with Conceal is to protect the Wraithguard unit- they give the wraiths 4+cover, and benefit from 5+cover themselves- plus, you care less about Guardians going-to-ground than you do about CC Harlies. The main benefit I see to the Harlies over the Guardians is that they are another threatening unit, so will take attention away from the Wraiths.

Wasps I've got no experience of- let me know how you get on with them :)
