Dark Eldar Treat

So while I took my sweet time to get back into the 40k grove a friend of mine has been slaving away building a Dark Eldar army.  Its the same guy whose IG army I've played against so many times.  Check out these photo's I think his painting has really been taken to the next level.

  1. Digging the DE, is that gold fading to black? Or the way the light is hitting the viper??

  2. i think he mixed metallic paint into his black for the undercoat. Then spotted up the model with metallic and blue. He showed me photo's and I thought it looked ok at best. But after he highlighted I think he has achieved a great effect. Looks like the colours are shifting on the hull on the vehicles.

His Guard are above table top quality and now his Dark Eldar are above that and more so. Looking forward to getting games in against him. I've got to step up my painting lol.

  5. Played my first game with my DE on thurs and I hated it. Paper thin transports, strength 3 assaults, 50/50 shooting wounds. Granted, I was using Mandrakes, and the list was not competitive, but I got the "jist" of how DE die hard and fast. It's going to be an uphill battle adjusting to the playstyle. 3 things I learned: Enforce night fighting, diligently pre-measure to avoid weight of fire, and for the sake of my sanity, take units that are fun and effective and forget about trying to make an all comers list. That means from now on, the Archon is in, Incubi are in, splinter racks are in, Beasts are getting built and reavers are getting finished. No more bare bones units. I want flair! Or in the case of the Dark Eldar, Grisly Trophies! We'll see if I can start to love this army, not for its killing potential, but for its pressence on the Battlefield. Now I just need to name my Archon...
